Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Your Jars!

At The Vintage Crumb we pride ourselves on actively minimizing waste and continuously seeking new ways to enhance our sustainability as a bakery. Using glass jars, compostable utensils, and recyclable packaging are a few ways we contribute to the preservation of our planet. So, while you indulge in our delicious treats you will also be actively fighting against climate change. Here are some ways you can use your jars after enjoying your cake!

1. Propagate Some Plants

One way you can use your clean jar is by propagating your favorite plant. Cut a piece of a plant you love, let the cutting dry for at least 30 minutes, and add it into the jar with warm water. To help your plant thrive routinely change the water and add some extra plant food. Now, sit back, relax, and watch your babies grow!

2. Make a Candle

Take some common candle wax such as soy or beeswax and melt it over a pot of boiling water in a heat safe bowl. Once the wax is melted, add in a few drops of your favorite fragrance and a few drops of food coloring. Set a wick into the jar and carefully pour the wax into the jar. Now let the candle cool, set, and cure. Once it is set you can enjoy your new candle in your reusable jar.

3. Meal Prep Your Mornings

It's easy to skip the most important meal when you're in a rush. Help make your mornings easier by meal prepping your breakfast with some easy over night oats. Take a half cup of oats, your preferred milk, and honey and mix it in the jar. Add some delicious toppings such as chocolate chips or fresh fruit to bring in some more flavor. By morning you'll have an easy and quick breakfast that can help make your mornings a breeze.

4. Use Them to Package Gifts

You can easily elevate your gift wrapping skills with this easy hack. Take your empty jar and use it as a way to wrap your small gifts. You can add things like baked goods, soaps, or small trinkets and decorate the jar with ribbon and a heart felt note. It's simple, sustainable, and cute!

5. Get Creative with Date Night

I know everyone has been stuck in the date night loop of deciding where to go. You will only need 5 minutes to help make date nights a breeze. Take popsicle sticks, and on each stick write a different date idea. Add all of the sticks into the jar and decorate the jar to your liking. When the day comes, blindly pick out a stick and enjoy engaging in whatever idea comes up.

By giving new life to these containers, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and minimize our ecological footprint. Moreover, repurposing glass jars can save money, promote creativity, and encourage mindful consumption. By implementing simple strategies such as proper cleaning, storage, and creative reimagining, we can maximize the utility of glass jars in our daily lives. These tips not only foster sustainability but also empower us to make conscious choices that contribute positively to our world. So, let's embrace the versatility of glass jars and embark on a journey toward a more sustainable future.
